In a ‘normal’ world, two-faced people are loathed heavily. It is because two-faced people are not believable. Two-faced people deceive others quite easily. But if I say there is a place on the earth where being two-faced is a survival tool, will you believe me?
In Sundarban, fishermen, and bushmen create masks that look like a face that they wear on the backside of their head. The idea is to deceive tigers that attack from behind. Bengal tigers generally attack from behind. When fishermen, honey collectors don’t wear masks, it becomes easy for tigers to spot their targets and attack from behind.
When a person wears an inexpensive, pale-faced, and rubber made masks, the chance of fooling the tiger increases. Tigers across the world generally avoid humans. But tigers of Sunderbans are notorious. They can swim miles to attack a fisherman on his boat.
But the latest study revealed that tigers have started understanding that the face mask thing is a hoax. There were instances when a tiger attacked people regardless of having a mask on the backside of the head.
